why would i be afraid again?
listening: drinking:
  • simon lรฉvelt sint nicolaas tea (marzipan, apple, cinnamon)

i looked back at the last advent comic i made and noticed i said in it that i'd be back in eight months

which, unintentionally, turned out to be freakishly accurate. it has indeed been eight months! couple more days and it'd have been nine, but things worked out for us last night. this has left quite the impression on me

anyway, i was thinking, maybe i don't have to be a bird y'know? i'm running out of pictures of them anyway. i feel like maybe could climb a tree, so maybe a squirrel? what do you think. those fly sometimes

or i dunno, maybe i should just go back and rewatch ntbts. maybe that'll make me feel better

Q: how's it--

A: hold on dear reader, wait. a pigeon just landed on a loose, low branch outside making it wobble up and down a lot and the pigeon's head is doing that thing y'know. it's really cool, its body goes all the way up but the head stays in place, then it manually(?) moves it really high so the body (still moving up) has a larger buffer to catch up, and then again and again. man you should've seen this. you really missed out

Q: how's it going?

A: you know

Q: all's good?

A: kinda yeah

Q: how much left now?

A: about a year, less maybe

Q: making some progress at least?

A: i think

Q: that's good

A: thanks

Q: advent calendar this year still?

A: you know it

Q: anything cool happen lately?

A: yeah actually. my girlfriend and i caught a bit of a roller coaster bug so we've been hitting some parks. i never knew i'd be a roller coaster guy but here we are i guess. there's a certain state i get in while on one, it's like achieving an unprecedented level of calm. i can't tell you why, maybe my brain just kicks into this state because what else can you even do when you launch from 0 to 90 km/h straight in under 3 seconds, or get held hanging with your feet dangling around before a near 40 meter drop (or a 46 m one at 106 km/h, which is the fastest weve been on so far so i had to mention it), or when you do all of this backwards, its either that or you freak the fuck out so you kinda have be calm. and boy let me tell you that calm state is a dragon i will chase

Q: that sounds awesome, anything else?

A: yeah, finally got both a new laptop and phone. my old laptop and phone were both in the 7-8 years old range as i similarly bought the pair together and frankly i've held on to them too long. been enjoying using those lately, it's like i can see real colors for the first time after having salt in my eyes, i never realised just how much duct tape and spit was on both of them. the new laptop's a lenovo legion 5. i went for the 16 gb option but i can expand later to 32, don't think i'll need it anyway, i don't play much these days other than, y'know, adventure games. realistically games-wise we're talking modded morrowind, FFVII (the original pc release not the remake), factorio, maybe magic arena so i'm good. i mostly needed a good gpu (this has an rtx 5060) for my phd and work. it has an oled display though! and man i really am seeing colors for the first time, literally too. some real crazy things we've managed to make out of the rocks and dirt on the ground. the phone is a nothing phone (4a) pro. not much to say about this that isn't the same drivel about breathing fresh air for the first time again. things can be good!

i also got a cool haircut and we saw joji in the solaris tour

Q: see! things can be good!

A: well hold on a minute i didn't quite say that

Q: how'd you do at today's foodguessr

A: pretty good actually

I got 13,396 on the FoodGuessr Daily!

That's 2,738 points above today's average! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ˜ 4,196 (Round 1)

hold on dear reader i'm gonna go make another tea

drinking:

  • simon lรฉvelt rooibos orange tea

i have also brought an apple with me. it's a royal gala apple. i won't update the thing

Q: cool! what else can you tell me

A: not really a question. today i had that steak and marmite pocket. you read the side of these posts, right? these pockets are a really good solution for when you want a quick snack outside, like having a chocolate bar but savory. i've been workshopping this idea in my mind for some years now couse there was just nothing to scratch that itch, but these things have been right under my nose all along. with all the time i've spent in the netherlands lately i've been heavily onto grocery store onigiri and now that i'm back in the kingdom i've been looking for a fix but this is as close as i got. another step in my marmite journey i guess! it was really good, all things considered, but there is still dog across the street. and quite a considerable amount. enough to be enjoyable but dog is still dog

Q: what

A: oh my bad dear reader, i forgot it's been eight months since we last spoke. i'll need to catch you up on the updated internal terminology and discourse. just uh. for now it was good. solid 16.1/20 [โ–‘โ–‘โ–‘โ–‘โ–’โ–’โ–’โ–’โ–“โ–“โ–“โ–“โ–ˆโ–ˆโ–ˆโ–ˆ----]. we've got a lot of catching up to do

Q: that's cool, do i at least get an actual review? like you used to do?

A:

Q: a

A: i was also listening to death of a bachelor on that same walk i had the pocket on. it really put me in the tank pondering whether i like this album so much because of everything it means to me or if it's also just music i'd normally like by itself. like, would i eat it up this much today? p!atd in general? i figured sure obviously the things you're exposed to as a child/teen influence you as you grow right, you take upon the flavour of the broth you boil in. but does that mean you spend your adult life doomed to only enjoy art that's derivative of what you already boiled in?

i'm happy to conclude that no, obviously not, hooray for the beauty of the human condition and its nature to grow, develop, and change for the full extent of its lifespan, but that doesn't change the fact that death of a bachelor is a 2.6 on rateyourmusic. not like that's an objective measure but it's a measure at least right? and i'm eating up every single track on the album (save for impossible year, which i wasn't into when i was 15 either, whatever that would mean). but would i still be having this reaction if, say, i had never met rhi, or at least if she never introduced me to this album and p!atd as a whole, and i somehow ran into this specific album now, a full decade later? probably not but would i at least enjoy the songs the same way? probably? what else would be different if not?

i think what i'm really trying to say is that i miss being 15. or playing wakfu. or playing wakfu when i was 15. or, you know, my friends and the ease with which i made them

Q: i'm happy for you man but this all happened today though this isn't really catching me up

A: idk what to tell you dear reader, i've had two grapefruits yesterday. that wasn't today

Q: that's okay. at least you're here now. will you keep coming back? other than for the advent?

A: thanks. yeah, i mean. yeah. sometimes it's crazy to see that my guestbook still gets entries. with some degree of regularity too. i won't get too into this tank now couse it got so late and needlessly long already. but yeah, it's always nice to be back here. i just fly way off base sometimes

oh right, before we're done, i'm also on my third watch-through of mr. robot, back to back to back. and my kitchen scale broke. also today. this isn't an a to your q i just didn't know where else to mention it. y'know, for posterity

Q: :)

A: thank you for reading, dear reader, and for always being here. sometimes it's hard to imagine you liking me as much as i like you

Q: i know
