Tracklements Particularly British Piccalilli

ah yes, a fellow tom recommendation, and quite the great one if i may add!

the uk so far seems to keep hiding these things from me in plain sight. it feels like such an esoteric and weird combo, surely it'd be hard to find? right? but the second i learn of its existence i see piccalilli in every store everywhere

if youre anything like my mom you may find yourself asking "what even is this?" so, what is piccalilli?, besides awkward to type. a pretty simple concoction to make actually, diced pickled vegetables and mustard. and they still say there's no magic to discover left in the world

honestly it doesn't sound bad at all. though i am a pre-established fan of both pickles and mustard so i may be a bit biased. i really like what tracklements is doing with their range of pantry fillers, which is what this is advertised as:

the life and soul of the pantry! i like it. i fall for this kinda stuff

onto the taste. it's very strong honestly. you know, you don't expect pickles with mustard to be good. and then you try them and they're not really good. but then you try them again, and again, and they're actually pretty nice. of course, it's not meant to be had by itself, it's more or less a condiment. today's actually not the first day i had this, i've been having it for the past week with ham sandwiches i'll make for breakfast. it was still quite overpowering, good, but still overpowering. but quick and dirty breakfast ham sandwiches aren't really the best vessel for something like this, let's go britisher

as per tom's recommendation i had some with a slice of pork pie, which, i think, is the perfect combination. it's just the right blend of tangy, savoury, salty, everything, it's honestly delicious

is it a pantry staple? maybe not, maybe during the holidays. something about it doesn't quite feel summer to me. but i'm honestly very pleasantly surprised. perhaps not quite the soul of your pantry, but certainly a part of it :)
