more dles reviews
ever since i wrote about the dles i play and i ran into the big collection of them i kept thinking about them. i like them, conceptually. from a game design point of view they're very interesting to me. i thought i'd try some and see if i'll make some swaps in my daily rotation. i'll briefly review five i tried today
enchant worldle
i went for the enchant worldle first because i thought the name was cool, turns out it is magic the gathering related. cool coincidence! but oh, nevermind. i mentioned in the first dles post i don't like edhrec's spellify but i never really elaborated why. i don't like this for the same reason, unless you're ben wheeler i don't think you have much of a chance to know every random draft common from throughout magic's whole history. 30,859 cards specifically as of today. although i do like this a lot more than spellify. where spellify just makes you play hangman with the card's text, enchant worldle uses card properties (like mana value, color, subtypes) as guidelines, which is a lot more interesting. for that alone it's leagues more interesting and fun than spellify. sucks that i don't remember 30,859 different cards though

after a while i just used scryfall, there's absolutely no chance i'd have guessed this random ass avacyn restored draft uncommon. according to edhrec, this card shows up in a total of 60 decks out of all 3.5 million eligible decks from their database. i don't expect it to be a sleeper hit in other formats or cubes other than innistrad set cubes
pokle
i clicked on this thinking it may be pokemon related since as i said i really liked the pokedoku but this was a really nice surprise actually. it's not pokemon, instead it's texas hold 'em poker. you get to see the hands of three players as well as their rankings and you have to guess the flop, turn, and the river cards, both the suit and the rank. of the relatively little but still non-zero and non-balatro amount of poker i played in my life, texas hold 'em was always my favorite. i really like the pokle and it may actually end up in my rotation

colorfle
also liked this one a bunch. you get a color composed of three separate colors always at even ratios (50%, 30%, 20%), and you have to guess those three colors in order. the proportions being set at 50-30-20 was a really good touch. as a guy who first clicks on "images" when googling something i want to learn about or understand, this is a great fit for me. potential usual rotation dle but there's a few other color based dles that i'd wanna try beforehand

zaku chess
this is just chess man. it's chess rotated 90 degrees with anime sprites instead of normal pieces. and some discount fire emblem replies from the pieces every so often. you're put in a boardstate and told that you can win in N turns, but there's no penalty if you go over. thumbs down
Today you won in 1 attempt. 🎉 The battled lasted for 30 turns. (our scouts' solution needed 8 turns)
estimate me
this is neat. you get a jar (or, something. apparently it's always something different everytime) full of things and you have to estimate how much of that thing is in it. i got a jar of pinto beans. i'll likely come back to this because i'm very curious to see what else the game gives me since these seem to be a finite amount of user submissions instead of a puzzle that can generate a functionally infinite amount of iterations. that and i feel estimating the amount of things in jars is a useful skill to have

breadle
ok last one. i love the food related games. foodguessr, plate-off, and scrandle are all great so i tried the only other one in the food category. this is just wordle but worse. worse because it's themed and your word pool is that much smaller. it's not the first "wordle but ____" with a limited word pool i run into and i think they all suck

i really don't think it counts but i've been playing rue valley for a bit now. it's quite interesting, it doesn't fit the mold of adventure game but it kind of is one. i haven't played a game that's not a "classic" point and click adventure in a while, well, save for a brief but very intense balatro phase at the beginning of this month
although i did find myself missing club penguin quite frequently this time of year
